This easy spring side door refresh provides a big dose of DIY happiness. Don’t you just love it when you can do a makeover in minutes? I know I do, especially when our other DIY projects have taken months!

Spring just lends itself to renewal in so many ways. I noticed the grass is so much greener than it was just last week. Looking around our yard, I can see the tulips and daffodils emerging as they do every year. I’m counting down the days to open window season.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably know I’m not much of a wreath person when it comes to decorating. However, I want our entryway to look welcoming and still reflect the seasons. Last year, I dug up a narrow basket I had purchased at the Country Living Fair when it was in Columbus, Ohio, a few years ago. I spruced it up with a fall theme. Then, just a few months later, I used the same basket for a quick holiday look. I love the fact that I can use this basket over and over, and it always looks great.

Spring Side Door Refresh Elements

It’s a bit too soon to plant flowers outside in my zone, so for now, our spring side door refresh is limited to the basket makeover and a new welcome mat. I lucked out and found everything I needed at JoAnn. When spring rolls around, I’m always drawn to green and white and little pops of other pastels. I found these floral picks I liked and picked up some simple green decorative wire ribbonry. For the welcome mat, I went with a simple gray one.

Arranging The Basket

Whenever I redecorate this basket, I always start with the ribbon. I find it’s easiest to wind some around the top and adhere it with hot glue. That stuff is magical and makes the ribbon really stay put.

Then I stuff a bit of newspaper in the basket, depending on how long the stems of my floral pics are. Next, I loosely arrange the floral pics.

I finish off the ribbon, usually typing a bow and adding any other little flourishes. For this spring look, I added a few pussy willow stems.

Once I sweep the step, I put the new welcome mat in place. Our sweet beagle mix, Yosemite, decided to sit on it and give me some sass.

Finally, I hang the basket outside on the door and finish arranging the floral pics until it’s an arrangement I like. Just ten minutes later, it’s done! Instant springtime cheer to welcome friends and family.

I can’t wait to plant some pretty blooms out here soon. Wishing you a happy, sunny spring!
