What does fall taste like? This delicious and healthy pumpkin apple smoothie! Bursting with the fall flavors of pumpkin and apple, and with a touch of pure maple syrup, you’ll be making this smoothie time and time again!
Although I’m definitely a summer girl, I still welcome the change of seasons. I love picking apples, bonfires, and the rustling of corn stalks when fall ushers its way in. And, when it comes to pumpkin, although I’m not a pumpkin spice addict, I do enjoy fresh pumpkin flavor in pies, cookies, and smoothies, of course!
What’s In This Pumpkin Apple Smoothie
Pumpkin puree is a fall staple here at Sunny Side Up. Although you can certainly use canned pumpkin puree in this smoothie, I prefer the fresh pumpkin taste of my easy homemade pumpkin puree. It blends perfectly with the other ingredients in this recipe: plain Greek nonfat yogurt, fresh and local apple cider, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, a banana, a bit of pure maple syrup, and some pumpkin pie spice. However, the star of the show in this particular smoothie isn’t the pumpkin as much as the apple flavor from local cider. It adds a touch of sweetness without being overpowering.
How to Make a Pumpkin Apple Smoothie
This recipe couldn’t be easier. Just add all of the ingredients to your blender and hit blend for 30 seconds. This recipe makes two servings so you can share it OR save the extra for later. The frozen banana keeps the smoothie really cold, but to be truthful, I rarely use frozen ingredients. The refrigerator temp is cold enough for me!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup fresh or canned pumpkin puree
- 1/2 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- A banana, frozen or room temperature
- 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
Directions
Add all ingredients to your blender and hit blend for 30 seconds. Then, just pour into two tall glasses and serve immediately. The leftover smoothie can be kept in your refrigerator for next-day drinking!

Notes
Substitute regular milk for the almond milk, and if you don't have pumpkin pie spice, you can use straight cinnamon or a half teaspoon of cinnamon mixed with a quarter teaspoon each of ginger and nutmeg and a scant bit of ground cloves.
Substitutions
As always, I like to give readers some freedom with my recipes. If almond milk isn’t your jam, use regular milk instead. No pumpkin pie spice? Use cinnamon instead or you can mix half a teaspoon of cinnamon with a quarter teaspoon each of ginger and nutmeg.
Amp Up the Healthy
This smoothie already has plenty of vitamin A, thanks to the delightful pumpkin puree. However, if you add two tablespoons of ground flaxseed and a tablespoon of chia seeds, you’ll have a nutritional powerhouse that would be an amazing breakfast drink, especially for busy mornings when you have to get out the door quickly.
No matter how you make this pumpkin apple smoothie, I hope you find it to be as delicious as I do!
