This healthy homemade ranch dressing literally takes just one minute to make. It’s made with a handful of ingredients and a smattering of spices that you likely already have in your spice cabinet. It couldn’t be easier! Not to mention, the addition of freshly dried dill. It’s heavenly in this recipe and also in these 5 Minute Refrigerator Pickles. PSA, if you buy a bunch of dill weed, don’t toss what you don’t use up in this recipe. Instead, learn how to dry it for future recipes.
As it is in many states, ranch dressing is king in Northwest Ohio. If you go to any local restaurant, ranch dressing is going to be on the list, guaranteed! And who can argue with its versatility and fresh and creamy flavor? However, it typically isn’t even a little bit healthy, until now!
Why You Should Try This Healthy Homemade Ranch Dressing
- As I mentioned, it seriously only takes one minute from start to finish.
- There are no chemical additives or preservatives in this recipe.
- The plain, nonfat Greek yogurt is protein-rich and full of probiotics, so it’s good for your gut health. It’s also the perfect stand-in for sour cream.
- It’s seriously delicious!
This recipe is what I would consider to be ‘small batch’, meaning it doesn’t yield a lot. However, it’s also meant to be consumed within a week or so for ultimate freshness and taste. In our house, a small batch totally works. If you have a larger family, though, you can easily double the recipe!
Why I Ditched Store-Bought Dressings
I eat a very green and veggie-laden salad every. single. day. And rarely with any kind of dressing! I’m a weirdo that way, I guess. Matt and our daughters love their ranch dressing, though.
Like most people, I used to pick a good brand of bottled dressing and toss it into the cart without much thought. However, I totally changed my tune after doing a deep dive into the food industry a few years ago. Everyone assumes what’s on a grocery shelf must be okay to eat, but unfortunately, it’s on YOU to do your homework and make the final call. After scrutinizing labels and seeing lists of chemicals on so many things, I made some drastic changes to the way I cook and eat. It paid off in a big way, let me tell you. I have more peace of mind and knowledge now, but I’m also a much healthier person. And I thought I was pretty healthy before. See ya, bottled dressing and seasoning packets!
How to Make Healthy Homemade Ranch Dressing
Grab a small bowl, plain Greek yogurt, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon juice (fresh or bottled), dried dill or fresh chives, and salt. A little water will also thin it out to the right consistency. You’ll also want something to pour the ranch dressing into. I like to pour mine into a small jelly jar with an old lid and band. Give it a good shake before serving, and you’re good to go. Jelly jars are a great solution when you’re bringing a salad to a gathering and don’t want to pour the dressing on until it’s ready to serve. Not into salads? This ranch dressing also makes a great dip for fresh veggies and many others!
